From Dusk Till Dawn Walk Charity Walk
On the 29th June the Heat Mat Team will be walking 'From Dusk Till Dawn' to raise money for the Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Our route will take us from sea level at Lewes up onto the top of the South Downs where we will hopefully have clear weather to be able to watch the sun setting. After that we will walk along the South Downs Way past Ditchling Beacon (a Sussex Wildlife Trust Reserve) and Devils Dyke to Shoreham-by-Sea, before watching the sunrise from our vantage point overlooking the Adur Valley. As the dawn breaks we will walk the final few kilometres to reach the Sussex Wildlife Trust’s HQ at Woods Mill where will have a well-earned rest and restorative cup of tea!
In all we expect to walk around 26km and we will also be recording any of the nocturnal wildlife that we encounter along the way and submitting our records to the Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre. Nocturnal animals are usually under-recorded so whether it’s Glow-worms, Quail, Owls or Badgers we will be keeping a note of what we see and sending our records in.
For many of us this will be the first time we have walked on the Downs at night or so far, and apart from the distance involved we also have to contend with the lack of light and fighting off tiredness! Still, we all hope to have fun doing it and will make sure we take photographic evidence of the trip!
We hope to raise at least £2,000 for our chosen charities and we are really grateful for any support. You can make donations via www.everydayhero.co.uk/Heat-Mat- Dusk-Till-Dawn-Walk-2012 or by sending a cheque made out to Heat Mat to: Heat Mat Charity Walk, Ashwyn Business Centre, Marchants Way, Burgess Hill, RH15 8QY.
Whichever method of payment you choose the money will be split between the two charities and we will make sure a full trip report is added to this site in due course. Thanks once again for your support.
