Professional Electrician May 2010 Stats the way to do it

Dave Green, Technical Director, Heat Mat, believes the latest NGT thermostats will be a great leap forward in the underfloor heating market.
Although underfloor heating (UFH) systems have moved on leaps and bounds in the last decade, the thermostat controlling the heating has remained rather more neglected. The ‘state of the art’ thermostats offered with most ranges are often nothing of the sort, can take an age to program and look ugly. If you are lucky there will be a ‘metal’ option, but this will simply consist of plastic painted silver – hardly an exclusive look!
This is particularly surprising considering that the only part of an UFH system you can see once it is installed is the thermostat itself, and usually they have to be placed where they are in full view. In these days of interior design and makeover shows on TV it seems surprising that underfloor heating companies do not supply what their customers want.
Pleased to see you
Heat Mat’s market research has shown that consumers want aesthetically pleasing thermostats, and they are happy to pay more for them. After all, how many times have you been asked to upgrade to stainless steel sockets in a kitchen without the customer asking how much it will cost?
Some consumers say that the most important aspect of their heating system is the thermostat (the only bit they see and use), and being able to choose one to match their décor can be the difference between you winning and losing a job.
Premium offering
With this in mind, Heat Mat have created their Premium Range of NGT thermostats, with exclusive finishes to suit virtually any interior design. These top of the range thermostats use a variety of materials to allow you to give your customer exactly what they want. Materials used include genuine brushed aluminium, chrome, brass, black or white glass and even wood, all finished with a central cover in your customers choice of ivory, graphite, silver or titanium looks.
The research also identified a market for brightly coloured thermostats, so we also supply the NGT in a range of colours including lime green, burnt orange, bright red and deep purple. All in all, your customer has more than 40 different finishes to choose from, and we are certain there will be something just right for them.
On display
Our Danish made NGT thermostat is BEAB approved and supplied with a three year manufacturers warranty. It is simple to install and operate and shows your customers how much their heating system is costing to run in pounds and pence.
The NGT unit can also be used to replace other manufacturer’s thermostats, whilst still using their original floor sensor. This allows nearly all owners of electric underfloor heating to take advantage of the benefits the NGT has to offer and hopefully provides you with extra work.
