Underfloor Heating – Wet Systems

You are here: Home » Heat Mat FAQs » Heat Mat Glossary » Underfloor Heating – Wet Systems

Wet underfloor heating systems use a matrix of pipes beneath the floor covering which they pump hot water through. These pipes normally need to be laid beneath a screed covering so these systems often add significantly to the floor height, and therefore they are usually only used in new build or major renovation works.

Hot water systems are particularly suited to very large areas, such as sports halls, or whole house conversions where the costs for the boilers and manifolds are spread over a large area. The down sides of water based underfloor heating systems include the ongoing maintenance costs of the boiler and manifolds and the slow warm up time most systems suffer from.
