Fibreglass strands are used within underfloor heating cables to ensure they are not over-stretched during installation which could lead to the delicate heating wires becoming damaged.

The strands run through the centre of the heating cable and, if the cable is tugged or pulled in any way, they take the strain and prevent the wire from becoming damaged in all but the worst cases.
