Wattage per Linear Meter

You are here: Home » Heat Mat FAQs » Heat Mat Glossary » Wattage per Linear Meter

Most heating wires run at a set Wattage per linear meter, and somewhere between 5 and 25 Watts per linear meter is normal for a heating cable. For systems installed within screed a very high Wattage per linear meter is usually used as the cables are well insulated and the screed can spread the heat very well. Output’s of up to 25 Watts are common with these cables.

For systems to be installed beneath tiled floors up to 20 Watts per linear meter is perfectly acceptable, however for systems being used directly beneath laminate flooring a maximum of around 7 Watts per linear meter is desirable to ensure that the floor covering above does not overheat.
