Wooden Floor Heating
Easy to fit
The Wooden Floor Heating system is an easy to fit
solution if your choice of floor covering is floating
laminate. It provides a heating output of 150W/m2
and, when used with the supplied 6mm Depron
insulation, it only increases build height by roughly
7mm. It is supplied in various panel lengths of
between 1.5 and 7.0m which allows a tailor-made
specification for any room size. The system does not require covering with any self-levelling compound or tile adhesive and the laminate floor can be laid directly on top of the heating panels themselves. The ribbons are constructed from an amorphous metal which is double insulated with insulation. This is a major benefit over many of the carbon heating panels other manufacturers supply, as these are not double insulated and therefore require plastic sheeting to be installed above and below them to allow them to comply with electrical safety requirements.
As the heating panels can not be bent or cut in any way it is often only possible to cover 80% of the free floor area with heating. This is usually sufficient to provide sole source heating in a well insulated room, but in badly insulated rooms and conservatories it should be viewed as a secondary heat source.
Although this system can be used beneath carpet when laid on 3mm Depron, we would recommend our 150W/m2 heating mats covered with Thermoplan for this application as they offer a system with full earth protection.
When installing this system care must be taken not to place the heating ribbons beneath areas where there will be a thermal block on top of the floor covering, such as a sofa without an air gap beneath it or very large bean bags. This furniture prevents heat escaping from the floor and can lead to the floor overheating in these areas in extreme circumstances.
