Underfloor Heating – Ribbons

Heating ribbons are a form of underfloor heating that uses a foil with a set resistance to create the heating element. These systems often use an amorphous metal to create this foil however this does not give any particular heating benefit to the system. Although often supplied as a ‘one size fits all’ heating system they are often supplied without a safety earth and these unearthed systems, if thermally blocked, can reach very high temperatures without automatically failing. Ribbon systems are sold in panels that can not be cut, turned or bent and in complicated rooms this can lead to problems covering a high proportion of the floor.
