Tog Rating

The TOG rating of an item is the a measure of it’s thermal resistance and the rating is normally applied to textiles such as duvets. The higher the Tog value of the item the better an insulator it is, and therefore the longer it takes for heat to move through it.

When installing carpets above underfloor heating we would recommend using an underlay with a Tog value no greater than 0.8 Tog and a carpet with a rating no higher than 2.0 Tog. Many quality hessian backed carpets have a Tog rating of 2.0 or below and there are a number of low Tog underlays produced specifically for use with underfloor heating, Roma by Ball and Young being one of them.
