A fast-to-fit, fully automated solution designed to dramatically reduce spring frost damage in vineyards, especially during the vulnerable bud-burst stage.

This innovative heating cable system provides targeted convective protection along the fruiting wire, safeguarding shoots and buds from freezing temperatures with minimal running costs and zero water usage.

Vineyard frost protection cables offer robust, long-lasting performance:

  • Proven to reduce frost damage by up to 83% during severe frost events
  • Silent operation with no light pollution or water consumption
  • Can be powered from the mains or a generator at 230V or 410V
  • Plug-and-play control system with automated activation based on air temperature
  • Designed to remain in place year-round—even during pruning

What are the benefits of installing vineyard frost protection cables?

  • Exceptional frost defence with minimal energy use
  • Reduces the need for fire bougies, fans or water-based systems
  • Simple to install and connect using plug-and-play technology
  • UV-stable, durable design backed by a 20-year warranty on cables
  • Suitable for frost pockets, smaller vineyards, or hard-to-protect areas in large estates
  • Cost-effective alternative with payback in as little as two seasons

For maximum effectiveness, cables should be fitted along the fruiting wire, in contact with the cane to transfer heat directly and generate the convective plumes that protect young shoots above.

Simple and speedy installation

Heatcom’s vineyard frost protection system is designed for quick and straightforward fitting. The heating cables are supplied in bespoke lengths with plug-and-play connectors, and they can be installed by the vineyard team without specialist tools. Only a qualified electrician is required to make the final connection to mains or generator power.

Works with your existing setup

The cables are attached directly to the fruiting wire using standard plant ties, ensuring close contact with the vine cane for maximum heat transfer. They can remain in place throughout the year—including pruning and thinning—removing the hassle of seasonal setup and storage.

Energy-efficient frost protection

By focusing on convective heat rather than radiant warmth, the system creates a protective flow of warm air that shields vulnerable shoots and buds. The energy-efficient design delivers targeted results with running costs as low as £35 per hectare, per hour—no water, fuel, or chemicals required.

Long-lasting peace of mind

Heatcom’s heating cables are UV-stable and protected by advanced insulation layers, making them robust enough to withstand all weather conditions. The system is backed by a 20-year warranty on the cables and 3 years on control panels and enclosures.

Innovative cable technology

With over two decades of frost protection expertise, Heat Mat and Heatcom have engineered a high-performance cable specifically for vineyard conditions. This custom-built cable offers consistent heat output, simple integration, and unrivalled durability:

  • Fluoropolymer & XLPE Insulation – dual internal insulation layers resist UV damage and high temperatures
  • Stable Heat Output – fixed watts per metre simplifies system design and electrical calculations
  • Convective Heat Focus – generates air movement around buds without needing line-of-sight
  • Plug & Play Design – connectors make installation simple with minimal electrical work
  • Year-Round Installation – cables remain in place year-round, reducing labour and risk of damage
  • Generator Compatible – electrical panels can be factory-fitted for generator connection in remote sites
