Charity Begins at Home
Heat Mat and it's Directors have been supporters of the Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association for a number of years.
Heat Mat is proud to be a Corporate Member of the Sussex Wildlife Trust and we have also helped organise a sponsored event to raise money for the MND Association. At a lower level we also provide support to the Sussex Ornithological Society and Butterfly Conservation Sussex by franking their newsletters therefore lowering their postage costs.
During the summer of 2012 Heat Mat is organising a 'Dusk till Dawn' sponsored walk for the team here as well as their friends and family to participate in. Everyone will set off just before sunset and the aim is to walk through the night along the ridge of the South Downs from Lewes to Shoreham-by Sea, before watching the sunrise from our high vantage point overlooking the Adur Valley.
All of the money raised will be split between the Sussex Wildlife Trust and the MND Association and during the walk we will also be recording any wildlife that we encounter, with the records being sent in to the Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre which is based at the Sussex Wildlife Trust. Some nocturnal wildlife is severely under-recorded (after all, how many people go walking around the Downs in the middle of the night) so alongside raising money for the charities, hopefully we will be able to provide valuable records of owls, quail, badgers, glow-worms and any other night-time wildlife we encounter!
